Reviews Summary
People generally do not like the AARP Now app, frequently criticizing its slow performance, excessive notifications, inability to share or find articles, poor customer service, and inadequate discounts, although a few users found it helpful for accessing information and improving their lifestyle.
Update 12-2024: The older version was top notch... intuitive, stable, fast, & easy to navigate. This new version unfortunately has none of those attributes. It's slow from the moment you launch it, it's bloated with new advertisements, it crashes frequently (often while loading ads), and the sharing function loses the links to the articles (ie. if you attempt to share via text or email, the new message will be blank). I used the old app daily, but have stopped using the new version altogether.
Way too many notifications. Would rather get one daily notification listing everything instead of eight notifications a day. Of course the notifications are the only way to access an article. God forbid you click out or want to read it again. They're is no search function, no link to the website, no way to share the article or print it. Also, stop asking me to renew my membership. My membership is valid for the next 8 years!
There are no real discounts with this app/membership. The discounts they provide for hotels/cars are the same from a general Google search. Now the price has increased to $20. I just cancelled auto renew. I'm not saving anything with AARP. And their customer service is lacking. Can't reach them via chat. When I called, I had to input my information 3 times. I finally just started hitting zeros until I was transferred to someone. Other than cruise gift cards there's nothing worthwhile.
I really do not like the app. Probably 99% of what I see is useless. Tried to search hotel discounts in a certain area, got nothing. Tried to opt out of basically every notification, my inbox is overflowing. Don't want emails, get them every day. Tried autobot chat - 3 times - talks about human friends helping me, try later. That's a complete waste. I'm a new member, but really do not see anything here for me. Complete letdown. If aging means joining groups like this, I'll go it alone. Sorry.
I have the app on my phone for my parents. Haven't used it much for the actual services, but I do get push notifications from them. I went into settings and turned off notifications for news articles, as they were totally irrelevant, but they still come up on my screen. I contacted customer services and they said there's no way to change that. So that's fun. I get bright red important looking pop-ups in my notifications and it's just an article about a guy who took money from his 401k too soon.
Developer response:
Thank you for your kind feedback. You can turn off notifications under the "My Account" section, and turning off push notifications slider. If your problem persists, please contact us at +18886872277. - Kelvin R.
This app is a great tool for a better lifestyle and for everybody. Now, just for the aging ppls. It's just to make a great sense of things ppls find a pain to deal with. They break down stuff so we all can get a better grip on it. Then bring the most important and impossible things you might not think of at the time. This app really helps your profile look better because you become smarter on important issues , which meanful it gives you a better outlook on life.
Developer response:
Thank you so much for your review! Arietta S.
I get notifications from the app and I'm interested in the articles. But when I try to read them, I get part of the way thru and it asks me to log in. Fine, I'm a member. But after putting in my email, I try to paste in my password from my password app. The paste button pops up, and then disappears before I can paste it in. And I get an error saying my password is requiappears. EDIT: Over a year later, still not fixed. Un-installed app.
Developer response:
Oh no! We sincerely apologize for the troubles you've had with the app. We'd be happy to take a look into this for you, please contact us at 1-888-687-2277. Thank you. Darryl L
It's ok. There is a lot to see if I could get to it. For example, if Iry to open one of the Now News articles the only ones that launch are the advertisements. Very frustrating. Also, when reviewing the different benefits like the AARP bookstore, clicking on "Learn more" does nothing for me. I get this with most of not all of the benefits. I'd like to use much of the app, but is not responding for me. BTW, I am a paying member.
I'm an AARP member, pay dues and make donations and still have to watch ads to get to some places, like doing puzzles, etc., to earn points. This frustration is exacerbated by having to click through so many screens to get there. Then, after all that effort, the options to redeem rewards is pathetic. Most reward opportunities are just to get into a drawing for something. And for the few options to use a extremely high number of points for a $5 reward, the merchants are few and not popular.
Downloaded the app. It told me I was entering the incorrect password. I definately was not! Retried several times. Uninstalled the app! As most other reviewers have said...PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS! One can't even get past the log in. I'll come back and try again in the future. No one has time to keep playing to get into an app. It's sole purpose is for on the go, quick access. This problem has dated back for many months.
