Review Summary
Users have a mixed opinion about the Apartments.com Rental Search app, highlighting issues such as frequent crashes, missing or incorrect listings, lack of useful filters, saved searches and properties disappearing, and outdated or misleading information, though some users appreciate its basic functionality and simplicity.
It really bothers me that they allow unavailable listings to stay posted. Often, my feed is filled with postings for the same complexes that have no units available, and have had none the entire time I've used this app. This makes searching for real units a horrible experience since the feed is so cluttered with useless listings. If they gave an option to at least filter out "unavailable", then it would be much better.
The app is okay, but I wish there were more filters for things like pet-free, age restrictions, average rating, along with things like the year the property was built and the number of stories. You can't even see the average rating of a place until you tap into the property, when it should be visible from the search menu. You also can't mark certain properties as "Not Interested" either, which makes narrowing things down more difficult.
One extremely annoying thing about this app is that it automatically defaults to your current location for apartment viewing so if you're looking for something out of town. You have re-type in your search, go to map view and scroll to where you're looking or save your search and select it through a number of options. Doesn't sound like a big deal unless you're using the app multiple times daily, like most who are moving would. I've searched all the settings and haven't found a solution.
Multiple Issues! First is when I save a place to my favorites list, and then go into my favorites list, none of the places I've saved are clickable. This makes no sense. I have to go back to the map and attempt to find the favorited place by clicking one by one. This seems ridiculous. Secondly you cannot swipe between photos. This doesn't make much sense either. Please fix or advise if I'm missing something.
Functions on this app work seamlessly. However, in my opinion there are a few critical points that were looked over. When you search, the app does not remove unavailable apartments, so it looks like several floorplans and options are available to lease, but they are "not available", and this is extremely frustrating. Also, unlike other apps, you can't limit or filter the search to the year of construction, so many properties searched are of indeterminate age. Good app, but big holes.
It's a very useful app and I have received call backs from some apartment complexes. The interface is good however, after 10 or 15 minutes of being on the app it constantly crashes π. Also, the reviews on the app doesn't reflect the actual apartment, please SEARCH THE GOOGLE REVIEWS FIRST before contacting these apartments. Other than that it's fine. Also, though this has nothing to do with the creators of this app but I feel like it should still be addressed, everytime I would call certain apartment complexes, it would ring for a bit then make a sound as if someone answered the phone only for it to immediately hang up on you. With that being said, please verify whether those are the correct phone numbers for those apartments.
I've used this app for my first apartment. It was pretty easy to use with plenty of filters to choose from. But now, with the recent update, they got rid of like 90% of then in favor of just FOUR. The app keeps logging me out every time I close it, and it keeps deleting all of my saved properties. Probably going to have to delete the app if this keeps happening.
Developer response:
Sorry for this inconvenience. We are actively looking to release a fix for the saved properties and hope to have something soon. We are also looking at ways to better highlight which filter options are present. Currently, they are included in the "More" pill button next to "Style". [email protected]
Edit: Changing from 4/5 to 5/5. After years of coming back to this platform, I've learned through experience that it's really the only reliable option. It does everything you need it to, isn't anything "special", but thats the point. A simple experience to give you the information you need. There's no need for any weird, esoteric features that'll be forgotten or unused. It's not the fastest. Don't expect it to be. Zumper seems to be up and coming though. Curious how it'll take market share.
App works. Fewer features than the website which seems to defeat the purpose of them begging you to download the app on the website. Can't search for garages and other specifics on the app making it much more time-consuming to search. Many things that seem like they'd be "swipe" controlled in the app are not, making user experience frustrating and confusing. It also defaults to your location every time you leave the app, so you have to re-enter the search location every time. Unpolished at best.
i love this app. HOWEVER i wish we could make NOTES on our favorites! This would be so useful. As well as have a direct link to the apartments actual website. Prices are often wrong, or the apartment has more pictures of the actual website. Also, if you select a filter, like wd hookups, a lot of apartments didnt select is as a feature correctly on their end. so it wont show up. another good reason to have a direct link to the website. it would also be nice to look up a property by name.
