Review Summary
Users generally dislike the Nextdoor: Neighborhood Network app due to a wide range of issues such as repetitive ads, numerous and difficult-to-control notifications, frequent technical glitches causing connection problems, limited and expired profile settings, confusing organizational structure, and poor customer support.
I love keeping up with the community around me on this app! You can chat, post, sell, and more that I've yet to discover. I've recently come across a problem. In someone elses listing, when i click on the location, it just goes to an update screen pops up. Yet no update option on the play store.

If you're able to share a screen recording of this happening, that would be helpful. We look forward to hearing from you and resolving this issue.
This app has usability issues. The search function rarely returns useful results. Messages read and notifications that have been reviewed remain highlighted as if they are unread. There is a limited number of bookmarks so if you want to see an older one you must delete as many as it takes to be able to scroll far enough to find the older bookmark. User preferences on profiles expire so you need to reset them. There are an inordinate # of notification types that you have to turn off individually.

It's very easy to post things you no longer need/want. The AI postings are a no-brainer. Communication between seller & customer is easy as & I feel safe using the app. No one has my contact info unless I give it to them. Although you could meet the customer in the parking lot of a police station, we had large pieces we no longer needed. We opted to give our address out, bring the items outside & load them onto their vehicles.
Hiding ads means nothing. On this app, the same ad appears every few posts. You have the option of hiding it, but you're still going to see the next one. And the next one. Etc. Even resetting the app doesn't matter, the ad will still show up in your feed. Some ads I DO NOT want to see. The result is avoiding the app. It's that the goal here, Nextdoor?
The app is flooded with repetitive ads and the hide this ad function doesn't work at all. If the first 50 times you show me the same Ozempic ad hasn't interested me I can assure you showing it to me a couple hundred more times isn't going to change anything. Also the new post notification system mostly shows old post with no current value.

Thanks for your review, Lee. Since we're an ad-supported platform, advertisers help keep Nextdoor free for neighbors like you. We appreciate you sharing your feedback, as hearing from neighbors helps us improve, and we've shared your thoughts with our team.
The default notification/email settings are the most overbearing out of any app I've ever had on my phone, and changing the email settings is so clunky I feel like it's by design to keep you getting bombarded with notifications. I've never had an app push me to delete purely by notification spam, so this was a first. Also, the radius in which you get posts around your own neighborhood is too wide. I didn't look to see if this was adjustable, but again, the default is too much.

The algorithm is so bad. I click recent, and it shows things from weeks ago. It's as if no one has posted in days, but I know that they have. Update for developer: I regularly have posts keep showing up again and again that are 12 weeks old and irrelevant, even when I tell my timeline to show recent only. My husband told me to open Next Door to see a post someone posted 15 minutes ago. No matter what I did, it never showed up on my account, after clicking recent and checking on two devices

Many many usability issues with this app, notifications are like diarrhea, no matter how many you turn off it's still a flood. I ONLY keep the app on my phone for the merchandise as I've gotten GREAT fishing equipment at fantastic prices. So I'm only interested in occasionally browsing the for sale and free items, yet no matter how many notifications I turn off they still flood my notification area. Getting rid of notifications is also a chore as you have to delete them INDIVIDUALLY!

I'm having the exact same problem with the app as reviewer Douglas Ciolli (1/16/25): "When I open the app to go to the home tab, I get an error message stating 'Trouble connecting to NextDoor. Try again in a bit.' It's been like this for a week. Other tabs (For Sale, Notifications) on the app are working just fine. I can access all tabs/posts/messages on the web version, so there's nothing wrong with my account." It's made the app useless for me & many others in my neighborhood.

Is something going on this week? The app is constantly down, 'trouble connecting, try again in a bit'. When I get a notification on my phone this message 9xs out of 10 keeps coming up. Or its sorry something went wrong, can't load this post. Nothing on my end has changed. Tried your help page in app but there's no troubleshooting etc. Maybe should add that.
