Review Summary
Users have mixed feelings about the TP-Link Tapo app, with common praises for its intuitive design and customization options clashing with criticisms about unreliable notifications, recording issues, connectivity problems, and lack of support or useful updates.
This camera and app are pretty good. I like that they added zone detection for different notification types and that it is easy to customize this. I have to turn off general activity notify because it goes off when bugs fly by. But works well for people, animals and cars. My notifications randomly stop for a few days but then work again. Another new problem is if someone walks directly under the cam, it stops tracking ( it uses to track there)

Hello! If you have encountered any problems while using the Tapo/Kasa smart devices, feel free to reach technical support for help. https://www.tp-link.com/support/contact-technical-support/
I love the cameras and was very happy with the app. However, after your recent updates, it's almost as if you are deliberately causing inconveniences to line the customer up for another PAY-TO-REMOVE/USE feature. I am extremely annoyed at your constant reminder every 5 minutes that my "viewer" has been running for 5 minutes. It completely Interups my live stream on my home display. It is extremely unnecessary. If you feel the need to implement it, you should at least add a toggle off option.
I was very happy with my tapo camera at first, video quality is great but the tech is VERY flawed. It stops recording when there is still motion, the beta geotracking doesn't work so you have to record all the time or remember to turn it on when you leave & even using the cloud it randomly will no longer record so you can't ever count on it to be working. I haven't changed anything and am literally jumping up and down in front of the camera and I can see myself but it won't record. Disappointing
It's just good, not really great and not that bad. Generally good access to video and all my devices in one place. Wish I could quickly fast fwd/rewind the recorded video in small increments (like YT) by double tapping or another way. Also my wife's app frequently says no recordings on some cameras (wired) even though they show up on my phone and she needs to restart her app. Last, I wonder what data they're constantly collecting because tapo does not like my app tracking blocker.

As described by other reviewers, the app has become unreliable in its reporting scheme. The camera will still detect artifacts (motion, person, etc) however it will no longer record and notify the instance. The 1st time this happened, a soft reboot remedied the problem. However at this time the rebooting solution no longer helps. Stuck with a working hardware with a trippy app.

The app is generally well-designed, but there are still fundamental problems. When you receive an alert notification and click on it, often the app opens the *current* live camera view instead of the clip that triggered the notification. OFTEN. I have 6 Tapo cameras and this happens with all of them randomly. The motion detection boundary is also routinely (but intermittently) ignored. Tapo's response is useless.

It would be a good app if it didn't force you to link other apps to it. I have kasa smart plugs in my house and it asked if I wanted to link them to my tapo account. I said no and it added them anyway! When I removed them from tapo, it also removed them from kasa. I had to go through and readd all my devices to kasa. Far too invasive. Thankfully I don't have to use the tapo app, I was able to add my new device to another app to use it. Wouldn't recommend the products because of this.
Decent app. You can program sunrise and sunset on it, although you have to be kind of tricky with the native automation settings. Set bulb to custom default color upon turning on with gradual turn on/off, then set an automation for at a certain time for the bulb to fade on for up to 30mins. That gets you a "sunrise alarm." The automation is limited. Allow me to change the bulb color with an effect while already on. E.g. Fade on to dim Blue > transition to bright Red > off > prepare green > on.
Very happy with the C425 cameras. Happy with the picture quality and the battery life. The few things I would like to see improved on is the detection and settings for other users. It constantly detects my lamp post and hose reel as a person. It would be nice if my wife could turn on the alarm if she sees something.
I would prefer to see my devices grouped by type instead of having them all mixed together. I thought adding a device to Tapo was a bit more cumbersome than in the Kasa app. I didn't like having to assign a device to a room in order to complete setup. You can get around this by deleting the room later on. If you want to change the wifi access point, you will have to reset the device and set it up again. We didn't have to go through this in the earlier Kasa app. We're going backwards, folks.
