Reviews and Testimonials
Reviews Summary
Users largely dislike the Hulu app due to frequent technical issues, poor customer service, difficulties with navigation and cancellations, numerous and misaligned advertisements even for paid subscriptions, and problematic features such as subtitles and syncing across devices.
The app has so many bugs, and even with clearing cache and data, it still doesn't work right. After an episode of a show is over, the app freaks out and is unable to play the next episode. And when I manually click to play the next episode, it starts replaying the episode I've already watched. Something so simple was screwed up 2 updates ago and has yet to be fixed. Do better, or I will be canceling your service!
Always have issues of some type, whether on the phone or my TV. If you missed a scene and want to go back? You might as well start the whole episode over because it's gonna glitch to 30 seconds ahead of the time you just rewound from. "Continue Watching" never gets the correct episode, and doesn't sync well from phone to tv, which doesn't make sense because it's the same profile.
Very stressful to cancel, difficult to navigate. I have used hulu on multiple occasions, and the last two times I have used their services, I have had a frustrating time canceling. I use many other streaming services, and none so far have been this difficult. The show are wonderful, but it is unfortunately difficult to safely use this application.
The app randomly signed me out on mobile over a month ago, and I haven't been able to sign back in since. Every login attempt I get an error message saying "Something went wrong. Try again?" What is the point of having a subscription plan to allow watching on 2 devices at once if it never works??? Not to mention the amount of outages in the last month.
Not smooth in transitions. The recording is very inaccurate. Sometimes, it might record everything when you set it for only new, and it records only one episode when you want it to record the series. And sometimes, it still records a show when you set it to stop recording. This is incredibly annoying! It is hard to believe that this app hasn't been able to fix this. There are other problems that I can't think of at this time. Otherwise, it's great.
Subtitles get out of sync constantly and this has been an issue for more than 3 years using this app. This is ridiculous, I am willing to deal with the ads that are all inconsistent volumes so I don't know if I should mute my TV so I don't get a noise complaint. But the subtitles have been BROKEN FOR 3 OR MORE YEARS! I restart my phone and TV and it's still broken! If I could watch all these shows on another platform, I would, but y'all own everything. The suits and sales over there are demons.
I've noticed a lot of content doesn't fill the full screen and is cropped in. There is no way to expand to fill the screen when in landscape mode as far as I can tell. I'd also love for the developers to create a themed icon. Content wise it is great but it's the little touches that bother me that Hulu ignores.
Dont even try getting the mobile app. I've tried logging in and making a new account and only ever get "oops something went wrong...." message. even tried un-installing and re-installing to see if that. I even tried checking for updates on the Galaxy store and the Play Store on my Galaxy S24+, and based on the other reviews. This just isn't worth the trouble or time. It's just another thing that Disney buys and destroys.
2 price hikes in as many years is ridiculous. Plus you need to get permission before just charging cards a higher rate! Cant be that hard to have a notification pop up upon opening the app that can't be closed until they agree to the new price. I also don't appreciate the number of ads on a paid subscription. 6 ad breaks in a just under 45 minute show?! That's a bit ridiculous.
Used to love the app. Literally was watching it last night. Go to get into tonight and all I get is errors. From Mobile app to smart TV app. The login changed to my Disney instead of Hulu. Took forever just to get logged in due to it kept saying my email was invalid after they sent me authentication codes to that exact email. Finally after the 10th time it allowed me to log in only to get error after error telling me I need to sign up even to I'm in free trial phase until February.
