Most users do not like the Twitch app, citing numerous issues such as excessive ads, navigation problems, frequent app crashes, and dissatisfaction with recent layout changes.
Dec 9, 2024: Gave it another try after seeing reviews some things were improved. It's better. It didn't open blasting things in my face. The Following tab is very large and visible now. PIP works alright, and landscape mode can have chat to the side (you need tap some icon to see the full frame next to chat). Still would rather I had an option for it to open to the last tab I was viewing (Following). Still not interested in this new discovery tab *most* of the time. It's much less bad!
Best place to watch streams, if you don't mind the ads. I was watching a gaming championship today. Conveniently I got to see the first and last minutes of the round because the entire middle was ads. Oh and there's ads playing on the left quarter of the screen during the stream. How many ads is enough? Twitch says there's never enough. Even if this is localized to one stream, it's disgusting. I may have used this app once a month, and now I'm done with it. Unwatchable.
Can't use channel points in app. No option to mute a stream in app so I can listen to other music or podcasts. Too many issues with the app freezing while either watching streams or switching streams. Twitch links no longer take me to the channel I would like to view. App now freezes more than before. Seems like every update break the app more than before.
you have to watch the same amount of commercials as cable television. Every 10 minutes you watch 3 mins of ads. Or pay more than a Hulu subscription. It's ridiculous. On top of that they laid off their staff. I need help changing my phone number on my account & can't get it done because their useless support just replies back asking if I enabled a feature that I sent them a screenshot of being enabled IN THE FIRST MESSAGE I SENT. money hungry. switching to youtube
I truly wonder if it's possible for twitch to just leave the UI alone for a single month without completely changing everything up. It is becoming absolutely abysmal to use this app and navigation is always nightmare these days. The community is getting worse and worse along with it too, the only reason I still use it is because of a few friends that use it. The only reason this app is used is because everyone is too scared to switch over and lose viewership. Twitch is abysmal.
The new app layout is horrible and has a mind of its own. I'll be watching a stream, and it randomly switches to another stream without touching anything. I hope the latest update fixes it. (August 26 2024) August 31 '24: Now, I will randomly hear 2 streams at once, and then eventually, it will switch to another stream. Go back to the way it was. This isnt yt shorts or tiktok.
Generally a decent app. Despite questionable design decisions when it comes to navigating the app, I does work well as a Twitch viewing platform. At least it did, until some update broke the ability to play streams in Fullscreen landscape mode. The video freezes but sound continues to play. Some games/streams you really need to see Fullscreen to be able to read the screen, the broken player has made these unwatchable.
Oct 21 2024: Watching streams on my phone is LITERALLY unwatchable. The stream skips and pauses and loses connection. Bad. 8/28/2024: I really hate this latest mobile app update. I get switched to lives from ones I'm watching (and not by design). I'll get doubled up on audio from the streams I'm watching and other lives. I'm struggling to collect steam points. The mobile update has really made using the app worse.
Not sure why the team was told to change the home screen to be much worse instead of having an explore tab. It would be very easy to do either and save both the user and dev team headache instead of removing the original home screen. Used to like the app but it's very hard to see creators that I actually follow now so I don't see much benefit to it anymore
twitch keeps deleting clips from streams. it never did this until i'm assuming its most recent update. a couple other users and i created multiple clips from a stream and they appeared in the clips section while the stream was still going. but as soon as stream ends, almost all the clips will disappear. only a couple of them remain. this has happened twice now. really annoying considering the streams i clip don't have vods, so once the clips erase, they're gone forever ๐
